Announcement of Death
Princess Fazile, once known as the “modern Cinderella,” has passed away at the age of 83 in Istanbul. Her life, once filled with great promise, was marked by tragedy and loss.
Biography
Princess Fazile gained worldwide attention in the 1950s, capturing the imaginations of many as the fiancée of King Faisal II of Iraq. Born into royalty, she lived a life that could have seen her become Queen of Iraq, had circumstances not changed so tragically. In 1958, her fiancé, King Faisal II, was assassinated in a coup that toppled the Iraqi monarchy, a devastating blow that altered the course of her life. King Faisal II, who became king at just three years old following the accidental death of his father in 1939, was raised in Britain, where he attended Sandroyd School and later Harrow with his cousin, King Hussein of Jordan. Influenced by his uncle and Iraq’s prime minister Nuri al-Said, King Faisal took the throne at 18 in 1953 but remained unmarried. Princess Fazile became engaged to him later, although she wasn’t his initial choice for a spouse.
Loved Ones
While much of Princess Fazile’s life was spent away from the spotlight, her family remained her constant support. The pain of losing her fiancé in such a public tragedy left a lasting impact on her, yet she found solace in her close-knit circle of loved ones.
