Announcement of Death

We regret to announce the death of Peter C. Herrick, an energetic craftsman from Portland, Oregon, who died on October 23, 2024, at eighty-three years. He was a very loving person with dexterity and a sense of humor. He departed with many warm memories that lasted in the minds of the people who knew him.

Biography

Peter was born on April 30, 1941, in Portland. He graduated from Portland High School. Post-high school, he joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Wasp. He returned to land, got married to Carol Foley, and started rearing a family back in their hometown.

Career

Peter worked in welding and fabrication for Southworth Machine Company, Douglas Brothers, and Portland Engineering. He eventually was self-employed doing carpentry, painting, and remodeling with the motto, “No job too small.” Peter was known for his polka dot painted welding hats.

Loved Ones

Peter loved his family and friends so much. His kitchen was the hub for cards, get-togethers, and meals. His daughters, grandchildren, sister, and many other friends will miss him greatly.

Memorial Services

Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in Peter’s name for the American Legion’s Harold T. Andrews Post #17, 23 Deering St, Portland.

Closing Thoughts

He was known to be kind, with his mastery of his crafts that was remembered for how it would always bring joy in people around him. Peter will always be remembered for love and laughter through the memories of his family and friends.

Crafting and woodworking: he expresses creativity and expertise through all the projects where the audience who admired them are usually left with some impressions on their minds.
