Announcement of Death

GLOUCESTER MAXINE ETHEL HODGKIN TEAGUE, 78 — Passed away at home in New Gloucester on October 10, 2024 peacefully following a short but courageous battle with cancer. Maxine was born in New Gloucester, ME and her passing left the profound imprint of resilience, fortitude and an unwavering sense of community on everyone with whom she spent time.

Biography

Estelle had to work hard for everything she got, due in part to the challenges of growing up during and after the Great Depression. Granby wrote of those years in a short story that appears in May Basket Days and Bean Suppahs, which can be found at The New Gloucester Public Library. After graduating from Gray New Gloucester High School in 1964, Yvonne worked as a babysitter and at the Lewiston shoe shop. She would go on to earn her teacher’s assistant certificate in a Head Start program, one of her proudest moments.

Hobbies

Maxine also loved to tell stories, documenting moments from her childhood in New Gloucester. And she wrote about it, of course — for the Midcoast community publication May Basket Days and Bean Suppahs. She dedicated many of her free hours to the love of local history and community.

Loved Ones

Maxine is survived by her son, William L. Teague and his wife Kristina; daughter Tarine N. Teague; grand- children David, Ally, Tommy Karadimas,, Francesca Nazarko., Veronica Casepi.( husband Anthony), Will Adkins,(Brady Bryan,( Patrick); 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Vernon, Gail, Frances Sharon Charles and Audrey; nieces and nephews who have appreciated having Aunty Bev in their care- especially Miss K.
Preceded in death by husband David; son, David Jr.; siblings Odna, Carolyn, Ernest and Lorraine (twin sister); brothers Herbert, Andrew & Sylvia and Kathleen

Memorial Services

Her faith was a significant part of her life and she attended the New Gloucester Bible Church until age 92. A 11 a.m. memorial service is scheduled to take place at the church, Friday, Oct. //~ carefully read this and verify it follows the correct form then do add~ >18 preceding directly thereafter will be proceeds for puncheon in hall ~ as best we could make out<

Closing Thoughts

She will be dearly missed by her family, numerous friends and countless others who were ever so gently cradled in the warmth of her heart, moved by the courage she nowhere revealed. She will be remembered in the hearts of those that had the opportunity to know and love her.
