Joseph Rudolph Thompson, Sr., 84 of Great Mills, MD, posted peacefully in his house surrounded by loving family members September 26.
Biography
Joseph Pembroke Norris IV, “Joe,” was born June 23, 1940, in Leonardtown, MD, to his predeceased parents Joseph Pembroke Norris and Genevieve Nora Mullaney. Mr. Norris graduated from Great Mills High School and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961.
He married the love of his life, Patricia Ruth (Pat) Thompson in 1962. He and Pat share a fantastic, healthy marriage that has lasted 58 years. In March 1995, he retired at age fifty after more than 30 years as a cable splicer for Bell Atlantic.
He was well grounded within his community, evidenced through his service as the director of the St. Mary’s County Friendly Fund organization and a member of that board. He also was an officer and member of the board of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
Hobbies
Joe was an athlete and loved playing softball; he also volunteered a lot in charity events.
Loved Ones
He will be remembered as a man full of love, service, and devotion in his three children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 16th October at Holy Face Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Face Catholic Church Cemetery. All who knew Joe are invited to come and celebrate the life of a wonderful husband, father, and friend.
Closing Thoughts
Joe will always be remembered as a selfless man devoted to family, community, and country. His love and service inspired so many; it is hard not to accept the reality that he is gone so soon.
