Granville W. Farnum, affectionately known as “Gran,” passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 80 in Glenwood Springs, surrounded by his loving family.
Biography
Born in Glenwood Springs, Gran was the son of William H. Farnum and Elizabeth E. (Young) Farnum-Hinds. He was a lifelong resident of his cherished community. Gran graduated from Glenwood Springs Schools in 1962 and later earned a Bachelor of Business degree from Western State College. In 1965, he met Glenda Johnson in Boulder, Colorado, and they were married just nine days later, a testament to their enduring love that spanned nearly sixty years.
Gran began his professional journey at the Farnum Mortuary, working alongside his father. He later moved to Golden, where he ventured into the printing business with his stepfather, Sam Hinds. In 1979, Gran and Glenda returned to Glenwood Springs, establishing Gran Farnum Printing, which grew into a successful high-tech commercial printing venture.
Hobbies
Gran was a passionate outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He had a deep appreciation for the wilderness of Alaska, making 14 trips over the years, often accompanied by Glenda. Hunting was not just a hobby for Gran; it was a way of life that he embraced from an early age.
Loved Ones
Gran is survived by his beloved wife Glenda; son Kelly (Cathy) Farnum; daughter Stacey (Greg) James; grandchildren Christine Farnum and Nicole Tarbox; granddaughter Taylor Thulson and her husband Tyler; and great-grandchild Hayden.
Memorial Services
A reception to celebrate Gran’s life will be held on Sunday, October 20, at 2 p.m. in the Colorado Room of Hotel Colorado. All are invited to share their stories and memories. In lieu of flowers, guests are encouraged to share their most cherished memories with the family, illustrating Gran’s legacy of friendship and community.
