Obituary for Charles Leland Nickerson (1933–2024)

Announcement of Death

Charles Leland Nickerson of Wells, Maine, died peacefully on October 14, 2024. He was 90 years of age. He was born on November 14, 1933, in Sanford. He was a lawyer, leader, and historian who worked extremely for his community throughout his life.

Biography

Charlie graduated from the University of New Hampshire and Cornell University Law School. This young man dedicated his life to serving others and always acted for his community and family at heart.

Career

He also ran a decades-old law firm in Sanford. Furthermore, he basically had photographic memory. Customers and members of the professions adored him for legal acumen. He brought law practices up to and through an entire lifetime-a lifetime changing so many in the end.

Loved Ones

He leaves behind his wife, Linda, and three children. He had taught his family the value of traveling, staying fit, and being kind to others. His participation with the Sanford-Springvale Historical Society is testament to his interest in local history, and he will live on in the community where he spent his life.

Memorial Services

Instead of flowers, friends and members of the community are invited to make contributions in Charlie’s name to the Sanford-Springvale Historical Society or the Sanford-Springvale YMCA.

Closing Thoughts

Charles Leland Nickerson will always be remembered for his total commitment to his community, his family, and for living the principles he practiced. His legacy of being kind and a servant is what will inspire those of us who knew him. 

Hobbies

Charlie was very interested in history, particularly that of Sanford and Springvale. He loved his community and was active in numerous local organizations and gave his time and expertise to preserve the area’s rich heritage.
