Announcement Of Death
We proclaim the passing into the appearance of Lord of Laurel LaRue Liddell on Tuesday, October 19, 2024, at the Good Samaritan community in Red Oak, Iowa. She was 91.
Biography
Laurel LaRue Liddell was born 29 Oct 1932 in Primghar, Iowa, to parents Glen Bernard and Esther Ruth (Larsen) Williams. She lived life full throttle, planting seeds of kindness and creativity wherever she roamed. When she and her mother moved to Griswold, Laurel grew up and completed her high school there in 1950. A proud member of the Griswold United Methodist Church, she married Russel Dean Liddell there on July 18, 1950. To this union were born three children: Scott Murray, Glenda Sue, and Mark Allyn. The Liddells spent their years farming in the Elliott and Griswold area. It was in 1962 that they bought their beloved home place, where they built a life of love and community.

Laurel is survived by her loving family and many more who had the privilege of knowing this remarkable woman.
Memorial Services

Hobbies
A woman of many talents, Laurel was active in several neighborhood clubs and was secretary for the Tuesday Music Club for ten years. Her love of music shines brightly as a saxophonist performing with bands ranging from Route 48 Band to the Iowa Western Community Band. Beyond her music, Laurel had a flair for writing, contributing news pieces to the Griswold American, Atlantic News Telegraph, and the Red Oak Express. She did obits for the local newspaper with really good skill. A heart as big as her love of animals, Laurel is the daughter of Glenn. She found homes for hundreds of dogs and cats as well as a tiny squirrel in the course of her life. She would nurse the lost animals with bottomless compassion and still look to the afterlife as a means of revealing those traits.
Closing thoughts
As we memorialize her life, I wonder how anyone else would write the perfect obituary in summing up someone like that. Laurel leaves behind a legacy that is truly kind, creative, and full of love-a true testament to a life well-lived.
